Overview

A practical, skills-based group for young adults who want real tools for stress, trauma and big feelings.

Vera House’s Coping Skills Workshop Series is an 8-week psychoeducational group designed for young adults ages 18–30. The series focuses on concrete, evidence-based tools you can use in everyday life — from grounding and emotional regulation to boundaries and building a support network. Join in person at Vera House or virtually.

What to Expect
Each session introduces a few key concepts, then moves into simple, guided practice. You will learn skills, try them out in the room and get ideas for how to use them between sessions. You can participate by speaking, listening or just following along.
How We Meet
The group meets weekly on Wednesdays at 5:00 p.m. for 8 weeks. You can attend in person at the Vera House offices or join virtually. Before the series begins, a staff member will review what to expect and confirm that the group is a good fit for you.

Who This Group Is For

For young adults who want straightforward tools to handle stress, trauma responses and tough emotions.

This group may be a good fit if you:

  • Are between 18 and 30 and want more support managing stress or overwhelm.
  • Notice trauma responses, anxiety or big emotions that feel hard to handle alone.
  • Want practical tools you can use at school, work, home or in relationships.
  • Prefer a structured, skills-focused group rather than an open processing group.
  • Are open to trying short exercises and reflecting on what does and doesn’t work for you.

You do not need any prior group experience. You are welcome to show up exactly as you are and engage at the pace that feels comfortable.

What We’ll Explore

Each week, we focus on a small set of skills you can start using right away.

Across the 8 weeks, topics may include:

  • Understanding how stress and trauma affect your body, thoughts and behavior.
  • Grounding skills to help you feel more present and steady in the moment.
  • Emotional regulation tools for big feelings like anger, fear, sadness or numbness.
  • Boundary setting with friends, family, partners, school and work.
  • Noticing your own trauma responses and finding kinder ways to support yourself.
  • Building and using a healthy support network that feels realistic for your life.

You choose which tools fit you. The goal is to leave each session with at least one practical strategy you can take into the rest of your week.
