Say Hello to Cindy & Angela

Say Hello to Cindy & Angela

Cindy Britz joined Vera House in 2014 as our Program Administrator. With a background in fundraising and development activities, she was elevated to Development Director in August of this year.  In this position Cindy is responsible for implementing annual giving campaigns, our major gifts program, and planned giving. Her responsibilities include developing and cultivating major donors, working with the Vera House Board of Directors and the Vera House Foundation Board of Trustees as well as researching and submitting grants for public dollars and private foundation support.  “In my time at Vera House I have taken the opportunity to see and hear how the services Vera House provides not only changes individual lives, but also changes the dialogue in our community around domestic and sexual violence. Each day I am inspired by the staff, volunteers, and the people we serve. I look forward to sharing these experiences with Vera House supporters, hearing what inspires them, and working together to further the Vera House mission.”

Angela Douglas joined the Vera House family on October 2nd in the newly created role, Associate Director, and will support the development and implementation of all Vera House programs.  Most recently, Angela served as Executive Director at MercyWorks, Inc.  She is currently a consultant to the Gifford Foundation, providing support and coaching in the Nonprofit Lifecycles Framework for a range of organizations.  “The rich legacy of Vera House is in each individual that has and will receive freedom and healing from the trauma and abuse that previously provided them a picture devoid of hope and inner strength. I am excited to join this family and the commitment to advocacy, education and service in our community.”

A Message to Andrew Cuomo

“The Friends of Andrew Cuomo” spent over $300,000 to launch an ad campaign designed to paint former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo as a victim of political attacks because of the sexual harassment claims against him. We cannot allow this gaslighting to continue while the ad revictimizes victims of not only Cuomo’s sexual harassment but ANYONE who has ever experienced abuse. The tactics used by Cuomo and his supporters further represent the barriers that survivors face every day that prevent them from coming forward and getting support.

We at Vera House have asked Andrew Cuomo to take accountability for the harm he has caused on multiple occasions. Instead of admitting to his wrongdoings, he continues to use power and control to suppress and invalidate the truths of the survivors.  Today we released a video, produced by Solon Quinn Studios and supported by Survivors’ Network, that sends a powerful message to survivors, "I believe you."

We are asking you to help us amplify the video so that survivors throughout New York and the rest of the world know that we believe and stand with them.
