Main Shelter Kitchen Renovation Complete

Thanks to the generous support of many, our Main Shelter kitchen has undergone quite a transformation over the summer!  After 25 years without a major renovation, the space received a complete overhaul.  We now have a welcoming, fully accessible kitchen equipped with durable, energy efficient appliances and plenty of storage space, including individual cabinets for shelter residents and ample shelving for kitchen equipment and dishes.

Our kitchen and dining area serves as the heart of our shelter, where we feed and nurture our residents.  We are thrilled to have a functional, beautiful area where our residents can replenish and revive their bodies and souls.  Please take a moment to view the photographs of our new kitchen below.

We’d also like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to the following for their contributions to make our renovation project possible:

  • Allyn Foundation - $25,000 grant

  • The Central New York Community Foundation - $25,000 grant

  • Nationwide Foundation - $10,000 grant

  • Hueber Breuer Construction – oversaw the entire project.  A special thank you to Sean Foran and Shawn McDonald for their leadership and attention to detail.

  • Lori Brown, Associate Professor at the School of Architecture at Syracuse University - donated her services as project architect

  • Silverhammers – volunteer organization that donated hundreds of hours of expert carpentry services to ensure a beautiful final product

  • 154 individuals who donated over $35,000 in response to our Summer Appeal, which was directed to the kitchen renovation project

  • Numerous restaurants and invididuals that donated meals for shelter residents when our kitchen wasn’t operable

  • The Vera House Foundation for helping fund the remaining balance of the renovation
